Valerie June Unveils “Sweet Things Just for You”

Valerie June unveils “Sweet Things Just for You,” the second single from the GRAMMY-nominated singer, songwriter, and multi-instrumentalist’s forthcoming album, Owls, Omens, and Oracles, out April 11th via Concord Records. Following lead single “Joy, Joy!,” hailed by Paste as “clear-eyed and radical,” the folksy “Sweet Things Just For You” features producer M. Ward (guitars) and Norah Jones (backing vocals) with June (vocals) reflecting on the wellness industry in the midst of a decade of rapid global change. Of the new single, June says:

“In a time when wellness and self-improvement have become a $4.5 trillion-dollar industry, many of us are hungry for a more profound spiritual solution for sustainable change. The truth is wellness cannot be purchased at our local health-food store. Wellness and mindfulness are actions. It is how we relate to one another, nature and our environment.

Whether we are singing a song, sharing our art, waiting tables, cleaning houses, writing policies, cuddling loved ones, or building bridges, how do we show up for each other with the spirit of sweetness in every move? We spend our whole lives toiling, and what is the spirit of our service? Though it seems easy, I've found it to be super challenging to practice sweetness, especially when we are facing the hurdles of the modern world.

So, what does it take to recognize our superpowers and activate them for good?

What sweet things can you do for someone else today?”

Valerie June has opened her deepest channel yet to create Owls, Omens, and Oracles. Every single note June sings is dusted with her distinctive Tennessee twang, but that doesn't mean she should ever be limited by genre. June holds the complexity of “My life is a country songand “I am multidimensional, beyond category. The album is expansive, growing from her psychedelic folk, indie rock, Appalachian, bluegrass, country soul, orchestral pop, and blues root system into an intergalactic web of wisdom. Listening to her work, we are reminded that whoever created this Earth didn't stick to one genre, so why should we?

June recently announced the Owls, Omens, and Oracles Tour, which kicks offthe week after the album release and runs through late June. All shows are full band; a full list of dates can be found below, and tickets can be purchased here.
