AUSTRALIAN INDIE ROCK BAND SPACEY JANE PREMIERES NEW SINGLE “HOW TO KILL HOUSEPLANTS”

Today, Australian indie-rock band Spacey Jane premieres their latest single, “How to Kill Houseplants,” whose lineage traces back to the power-pop balladry of 80s Aussie bands Icehouse and INXS. The heartbreaking track sees frontman Caleb Harper confront his inability to repair a relationship as he battles the temptation to walk away. “I feel awful and I want to save this thing and I don't know how to do it,” Harper admits, adding wryly of the houseplant-relationship metaphor, “I should know how to do this by now, but I don't: I've killed 35 creeping ivies.”

The new track is the second offering from Spacey Jane’s forthcoming album, If That Makes Sense, which is set for release on May 9. The previously released track “All The Noise” received early praise from the likes of PAPER who proclaimed, “[This is] the kind of indie rock offering that makes you remember why you’d even fall in love in the first place, spelling out truths and vulnerable revelations over driving guitar parts and buoyant drums."

If That Makes Sense sees the band explore new facets of their sound and dive deeper into themes of falling in and out of love, overcoming trauma and learning to pick up the pieces. Produced by Mike Crossey (The 1975, Arctic Monkeys, Wolf Alice), the band also collaborated with songwriters Jackson “Day Wave” Phillips and Sarah Aarons (Childish Gambino, Miley Cyrus, Lykke Li) to bring this project to life.

The new album follows 2022’s Here Comes Everybody and 2020’s Sunlight. The band became a hometown sensation after the release of Sunlight, topping Triple J’s annual album poll with breakout single “Booster Seat” and earning the ARIA  for Song of the Year. Inspired by the success of their debut album, Spacey Jane got to work on their sophomore album, which debuted at #1 on the ARIA Charts and earned them the title of Triple J’s most played artist in 2022. With two critically acclaimed albums under their belt and chemistry that’s stronger than ever, Spacey Jane are swinging for the fences on their forthcoming record. Ahead of the record’s release, the band have also announced a 20+ show headline touring run across Australia and New Zealand. Purchase tickets HERE.
